Can I pay in Euros?
Some of the Marsa Alam resorts might accept Euros, as many tourists frequent these areas. However, the exchange rate offered for Euros may not be as favorable as using Egyptian Pounds, and you might receive change in Egyptian Pounds. Smaller shops, local markets, and restaurants in Marsa Alam and other non-tourist areas generally do not accept Euros. It’s much more practical to pay in Egyptian Pounds (EGP) for everyday purchases.
Local vendors and taxi drivers almost always expect payment in Egyptian Pounds, and bargaining in Euros might be difficult.
Where can I change my currency to the local currency?
At banks, exchange offices, or ATMs when you arrive in Egypt.
Most ATMs in Egypt allow you to withdraw local currency (Egyptian Pounds), and you can often find currency exchange services in major hotels or at the airport.
What is the exchange rate?
When paying in Euros, the exchange rate may vary, and you might receive a less favorable rate than what you would get through a bank or currency exchange service. Therefore, it’s often more cost-effective to use Egyptian Pounds.
