Playa del Cura, Gran Canaria, offers a great base for cycling, especially if you're looking to explore the stunning coastal views and mountainous terrain that the island is known for. Here are a few cycling trails and routes in and around Playa del Cura:

1. Coastal Routes – GC-500 Road

  • Distance: Varies (depending on the section)
  • Difficulty: Medium
  • Description: The GC-500 road runs along the southern coast of Gran Canaria, offering stunning views of the ocean, cliffs, and surrounding landscapes. This road is popular for cycling as it provides a good mix of flat and rolling terrain, with some challenging sections along the cliffs. Starting from Playa del Cura, you can head toward Puerto Rico and further south, passing through dramatic coastal scenery.
  • Tip: Be cautious of the traffic, especially in busier tourist seasons, but it’s one of the safest routes for cycling in the area.

2. Puerto Rico to Playa del Cura

  • Description: This is a short but beautiful route connecting Playa del Cura to the nearby Puerto Rico, a popular tourist town. You’ll ride along the coast, with wonderful ocean views and an opportunity to experience the peaceful environment between the two areas.
  • Tip: This route is fairly relaxed, with less traffic and a gentle incline. It’s ideal for a casual ride.

3. Mogán Valley Loop

  • Description: This trail takes you inland from Playa del Cura toward the Mogán Valley, which is known for its rugged hills and stunning natural beauty. This loop includes some steep climbs, but it rewards cyclists with panoramic views and a sense of adventure. The road conditions here are good, and you'll pass through some picturesque villages along the way.
  • Tip: This route is ideal for experienced cyclists who enjoy more challenging terrains. It’s a great way to explore the island’s interior.

4. La Cumbre to Playa del Cura

  • Distance: ~40 km (one way)
  • Difficulty: Hard
  • Description: For more experienced cyclists, you can venture into the mountains from Playa del Cura to reach La Cumbre (the highest point on the island). This challenging ride is a long, uphill climb with some steep gradients. The route offers incredible views over the island and the surrounding landscape once you reach the top.
  • Tip: Be sure to prepare for the physical challenge of this route, and take plenty of water and snacks.
