Local dishes include:

• Moose

A classic ingredient in Dalarna’s forest cuisine. Often roasted, stewed or slow cooked with aromatic herbs and offering a warm and hearty taste of the surrounding forests and hunting traditions.

• Smoked or cured trout

Cold smoked or salted trout from the region’s cold rivers and mountain streams. Served with bread, herbs or cream and showing the purity of the local waters.

• Suovas with Gáhkku flatbread

Thin slices of smoked reindeer quickly sautéed and served with soft Sámi flatbread. A traditional nomadic dish still enjoyed in Idre and one of the most authentic Sámi flavor combinations.

• Wild berries and forest herbs

Cloudberries, blueberries, lingonberries and hand picked herbs are essential to the mountain diet. Used in sauces, desserts, jams and wild meals and showing the natural abundance around Idre Fjäll.

• Tunnbröd or Tuttul

• Reindeer or moose stews

Slow cooked dishes with game meat, root vegetables and forest spices. Warming and rustic dishes typical of the northern mountain region.

• Local charcuterie

Dried or smoked reindeer meat, game sausages and other products made by local Sámi families. Popular as hiking snacks or cold dishes.
