Typical Food & Local Products in Alpbachtal / Alpbach

Alpbachtal hay‑milk cheese — a regional cheese made from “hay milk,” with a rich flavor and a true representative of the mountain region.

Tyrolean Gröstl — a hearty mountain dish with fried potatoes, meat (pork or beef), onions, and often topped with a fried egg. Perfect after a day of hiking or skiing.

Kaiserschmarrn — fluffy pancakes torn into pieces, served with powdered sugar and often with fruit compote. Popular as a dessert or sweet snack.

Kaspressknödel / cheese dumplings & cheese dishes — cheese dumplings or cheese/spätzle‑like dishes made with local cheese, often served in mountain huts or cozy guesthouses.

Traditional farm / alpine dishes & “Tyrolean Marend” (platter with cheese, bacon, sausage, bread, etc.) — ideal for tasting a variety of regional products at once: cheese, meats, bread, and more.

Local artisan products — such as homemade bread, sausage & bacon, vegetables, fruit, beer, and schnapps from farms or small producers in the valley.
